Dear Prism experts,
How can I get more time to pay my bill?
Answer:
We've all been there! An unexpected bill shows up and now you are struggling to fit it into your monthly budget. If only it was due a few days later. However, did you know that with some research you may be able to squeeze out a few more days?
Figure out the grace periods. Depending on the biller, the grace period may be anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. Read the small print on the bill or call the biller to find this out.
Explore the payment options. Sure, the bill may be due today if you are paying online, but if you mail a check it just needs to be postmarked with today's date. Aha! There you have an extra 2-3 days. (Plus, the check payments on their own take 2-3 days).
Evaluate the late payment penalty. Sometimes when the late payment fee is very small it may make sense to take the hit and buy yourself time that way. Billers like utilities typically charge the lowest late payment penalties - but you will want to check that.
Call up the biller. You'd be surprised, most billers are willing to work with you so they get paid. Whether it be getting a bill payment extension or working out a payment plan, most billers will be happy to help you.
